Wonderland Birthday Tea Party

It’s been almost a year since my baby’s first birthday.  But I wanted to share a few photos from her party before she turns two next month.  I am not really a “theme” type person and I don’t really care for all the fluffy kid’s cartoon stuff.  So, I chose to do a whimsical tea party, Wonderland inspired. I designed her invitation and many of the printed details on the food table. A big thanks to my sister and mother for helping me put the final touches together.

Milestones and Turning 30

My Family
In the last month, I welcomed a few milestones. I became a mother when my baby girl, June, entered the World on April 18th. I also turned 30 a few days later. And then celebrated my Golden Anniversary — 6 years on May 6th. I have a lot to be thankful for. Although I have done nothing to deserve them, the Lord has blessed me with a wonderful husband, and a precious, little girl. I think my 30’s are going to be my best years yet!

Books, Books & More Books

I love books. If there’s one thing I feel like I can justify collecting, it’s books. Especially ones with pretty covers.  But we’ll get to that shortly.

Today is my birthday. I took the day off work so I could enjoy turning 28.  I woke up to three text messages (thanks bro for waiting until 6am!) and too many facebook notifications to count. I felt very loved. My two very good (you could say best) out of state/out of country friends even called me on the phone! I am not a big phone conversationalist, but, this was very special to me.  I love you Britty and Kitty.

My twin sis (if you didn’t know I had one by now) and I met up for breakfast (thank you, Trader Joe’s), half-price-book shopping, Chai (thank you Cosmic Coffee), and a stop at Patina.  I found THE BEST DEALS at Half Price Books and I’m so excited that I have to share my finds with you!

Among my good finds are books 5 & 6 of the Anne of Green Gables series: Anne of Ingleside & Anne’s House of Dreams; Organizing From the Inside Out, Old-Time Vinegar, Garlic, Baking Soda, and 101 More Problem Solvers, and Martha Stewart’s Good Things For Organizing.

I also found one of these two AMAZING 1943 Random House Publishing books. Dena had found Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte earlier and gave it to me for my birthday. Then today, we found it’s mate, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte today for a mere $2.00.

Isn’t this detail lovely?

I am absolutely in love with these nastalgic classics. They have beautiful wood engraved illustrations as the cover, and throughout the book, telling it’s story. Illustrations by Fritz Eichenberg. Love, love, love these treasures.

Tonight, my In-Laws are taking my husband, Darin, and I out to eat at one of my fav restaurants. My stomach is already growling in anticipation. Thanks to everyone who has wished me Happy Birthday today.

If you haven’t noticed yet, I love, love, love Zooey and her band (with M.Ward), She & Him. About a month ago, I checked their website and noticed they were touring and were coming to town! I immediately got too excited, only to find out the show here in Minneapolis was already SOLD OUT! What a total downer (for me).  Yesterday my husband surprised me (early) for my birthday with 2 tickets to the Minneapolis show! So, we’re going to see She & Him in June! So excited!!!

It’s hard to believe we’re almost into the fifth month in the year. It feels like it just started. Since I made the decision to “get healthy” last year, I’ve been making a lot of changes in my lifestyle – not just physically, but mentally and spiritually. But I am sharing about my body today. I started making better choices in my diet, as well as exercising on a regular basis. I’ve been alternating between running and pilates and some free weights.  But, I’d really like to build more muscle to make me a better athlete. I made the decision to meet with a personal trainer, who happens to be married to one of my good friends.  So, I met with him last night and he kicked my butt! I feel a little sore today, but still completely mobile. I can’t wait to start seeing results! This year, I won’t be embarrassed in my swimming suit.
